Corridor Restoration Wins ACEC Ohio Engineering Excellence Award

CDS Associates received an Honor Award for the Beaver Run Creek Riparian Corridor Restoration in the 2005 ACEC Ohio Engineering Excellence Awards Competition in the Water Resources category. Using a variety of bio-engineering techniques to repair a severely eroded stream corridor, CDS' Government Consulting group developed an ecologically sensitive design to stabilize and enhance the riparian corridor located within Chamberlain Park in Springdale, Ohio. The work resulted in an ecologically informed solution that alleviated the stream bank erosion problems, mitigated the erosion from reaching a resident's fence line, and vastly improved the aesthetics in Chamberlain Park.

The project has exceeded the City of Springdale's expectations! Cecil W. Osborn, City Administrator of the City of Springdale, said, "The improved water quality downstream merely underscores the benefit this project provided scores of people in the area."

The award was presented during National Engineers Week at the Engineering Excellence Awards luncheon on Wednesday, February 23, 2005, in the Atrium of the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus. Pat Madl, EI, Project Manager, accepted the award on behalf of CDS Associates.

The ACEC Ohio Engineering Excellence Awards Competition is an annual program that recognizes engineering companies for projects in eight categories that demonstrate a high degree of uniqueness, ingenuity, and value.

CDS has offices located in Cincinnati (Blue Ash) and Florence, Kentucky, and offers services in Government Consulting, Highways/Structures, Land Development, Government Architecture, and Corporate Architecture.
